395 Deal Road, Oakhurst, NJ
Bel-Aire Farms/Walter Reade Estate

The Bel-Aire Farms estate located on Deal Road was built in the early 1900s by Archibald W. Spier, Esq. During the 1920s, it was reported to be a luxury speakeasy and gambling house that catered to the wealthy. From the 1930s, it was the home of theater magnate Walter Reade Sr. and, later his son, Walter Reade Jr. In the 1970s, the land was subdivided for homes, and the mansion was used as a synagogue. It was demolished in the early 1990s to make way for the Magen David Synagogue.
