300 Park Avenue, Oakhurst, NJ
Fairlawn/The Oaks

The estate on the south side of Park Avenue, between Monmouth Road and Larchwood Avenue, was first called Fairlawns when built by renowned actor Edwin Booth (brother of John Wilkes Booth). In 1875, Booth sold the house to Thomas T. Kinney. Later, William Campbell Clark, son-in-law of Kinney, owned the house and renamed it The Oaks for the many oak trees surrounding the house. Local lore has it that the village of Oceanville also changed its name to Oakhurst at this time. The building no longer stands.  Only one of the entrance gates is still there.
