301 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, NJ
The Homestead (Laurus Loomis Estate)

Laurus Loomis was a well-known cotton merchant in New York.  He was a close friend of James Bradley, founder of Asbury Park.  In fact, he and two other friends originally bought the 500 acres of property that Bradley developed as Asbury Park.  He was a devout Methodist and spent some $70,000 (a considerable sum at the time) during his life donating Bibles to organizations throughout the United States.

His estate existed on Monmouth Road into the 1950s.  Today, it is the location of Temple Torat El on Monmouth Road.
