Frederick Frelinghuysen was president of Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company from 1899 to 1924. He was married to Estelle Kinney. The Frelinghuysen family had immigrated to New Jersey in the 1700s and had served in prominent government positions in the state and the nation. Frederick's father, Frederick T. Frelinghuysen, was a U.S. Senator from New Jersey and the Secretary of State under President Chester A. Arthur.

"White Wings" was a small house set back on the north side of Park Avenue that was remodeled and enlarged by Frederick Frelinghuysen in 1903. The estate of 85 acres also included stables, greenhouses, garages, gardens, a dairy, and a staff of twelve. It was used as a summer home until 1921 when the family used it as a year-round residence. In 1945, the house was razed and the land was sold to Milton Erlanger.
