53 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, NJ
Oakhurst Inn

Building Constructed Approximately 1849
Building Marked by Township of Ocean Historical Museum 1996

The Oceanville Inn, built before 1849, was originally named the J.R. Conk Hotel. Mr. Conk changed the name to honor the newly incorporated Township of Ocean. The small village at West Park Avenue and Monmouth Road that had been calling itself Bennet Town then became known as Oceanville. The building was originally a wheelwright shop and a tavern. In 1854 it became a hotel to serve travelers and the drivers of the wagons hauling produce and iron along the route to the docks on the Shrewsbury River. This Oakhurst landmark houses shops and offices today. The porch is gone and there are no longer trees in the front, but it is still known to many as the Inn.
