64 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, NJ
1st Oakhurst Post Office

In the 1800s, the post office was located in the Van Note Store. In the early 1900s, it was located in the Harry Davis Store. This little building was used at the turn of the century as a public reading room. From 1920 to 1961, it served as the first Oakhurst Post Office, until a modern building was built next door. That post office was soon outgrown, and the current facility on West Park Avenue replaced it. This building still stands on Monmouth Road and is used as a Realtors Office. Before home delivery, picking up the mail provided a chance to exchange news, discuss local concerns, and do some shopping.
