Sweetbriar Farm/Welch Farm
The area that today is Weltz Park, of the Monmouth County Parks System, was originally Sweetbriar Farm. Owned by the Gough Family, it was located between West Park Avenue and Whale Pond Brook. Later the Welch Family owned the tract and finally the Weltz Family, who gave it to the Monmouth County Park System, on condition that it be used as a wilderness tract.
