76 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, NJ
Mechanic's Hall/Redman's Hall/Township of Ocean Town Hall and Police Headquarters

In the early 1900s, the village of Oakhurst was the center for the population in the township and the location of the township hall and police headquarters. This building at 76 Monmouth Road, originally built as Mechanics' Hall, and was later called Redman's Hall (owned by Mr. William Redman).  It was used from 1904 to 1955 to conduct township business.

Having outgrown the old Mechanics' Hall, the township built a new town hall and police headquarters on the corner of Monmouth and Deal Roads in 1955. Before 1904, the Township Committee met in the building that would later be called Long Branch City Hall.  When Long Branch broke off from the Township meetings were held at the  Oceanville Inn (later called the Oakhurst Inn) and in the homes of the committeemen. This building also served as the only polling place for many years. Early Wanamassa residents tell of having to travel to Oakhurst to vote. Today the building is today a photography studio.
