Township
of Ocean Town Hall and Police Department
The Township of Ocean Police Department was formed by the Township Committee in 1928, after deciding that the Township needed more than just the State Police patrols that occasionally came through town.
Frank
Eisele was appointed the first Police Chief of Township of Ocean in
1929. Chief Eisele was by far the longest-serving Chief (almost 30
years) and is remembered as the most "colorful" Chief (In
the 1940' and 50's he had a horse named "Pearl Harbor,"
that he used to ride from his home on Deal Road to old town hall on
Monmouth Road.)
In
1955, the Township built the "new" Town Hall and Police
Department and they moved down Monmouth Road. In 1966, the
section of the building that used to be the Ocean Township Library
and is now home to the Township Meeting Room and Municipal Court was
built. The Police Department addition was made in the 1980s.
